Missouri set a new sales record for marijuana in September

Missouri topped 200,000 active patients while surpassing $30 million in marijuana sales for the seventh consecutive month in September

In September, Missouri topped 200,000 active patients for the first time since the state began accepting medical marijuana license applications in 2019.

With 202,874 active patients, roughly 3.3% of all Missourians are active medical marijuana card holders; with more than 13% of the patient population authorized to grow their own medical cannabis. 26,635 patients were licensed for home cultivation at the end of September.

Medical marijuana sales in Missouri grew for the third consecutive month, setting a new monthly sales record with $34.33 million in retail sales in the month.

Retail marijuana sales grew 7% in July. Newly released sales data from DHSS shows that August sales peaked slightly above the July growth.

   

Sales grew 2.72% over August totals, bringing the annual sales total for the year to $279.06 million.

Cumulative sales totals for the program grow to $494.14 million since the first retail sale in October of 2020.

October 17 marks two years since the state’s first legal medical marijuana sale at a dispensary, and on November 8 Missourians will be tasked with determining the fate of adult use marijuana in the state. The approval of Amendment 3 would allow for adults 21 and over to possess and cultivate marijuana for personal use.

The marijuana market is expected to exceed $600 million with the passage of adult use.
