Missouri celebrates recreational marijuana legalization with 420 events statewide

For cannabis consumers and patients, the term ‘420’ has been a universal slang, an invitation, and a welcome sign all rolled into one. Over the years, 420 has become a celebration of freedom and independence for cannabis culture, encompassing the spirit of Independence Day with a cannabis twist. More recently, 420 has become the cannabis consumer’s Black Friday, with sales hitting historic highs in other states and across the nation.

While Missouri first started selling marijuana legally in 2020, this year marks the first 420 celebration in the state where possession of marijuana without a medical card is legal for those over 21.

Last year, Missouri dispensaries saw a 233%  increase in marijuana products sold on 4/20 compared to the week prior.

This year, Missouri operators are bracing for an even larger sales volume. While adult use was legalized in November, recreational sales didn’t begin until February. In March, Marijuana sales rose nearly 400% over the average month in 2022, raking in more than $126 million in sales last month.

Now, dispensary operators around the state have beefed up their orders and stocked up in preparation. Around the state, licensees have put together, sponsored, and joined a range of events and festivities across the state, from vendor pop-ups to full-scale celebrations and concerts.
