Missouri continues to see marijuana sales climb

Missouri sees 5% growth over record-breaking medical marijuana sales in August

The Department of Health and Senior Services announced monthly reporting of retail sales numbers for the medical marijuana program for September, on October 1.

The program surpassed the $100 million mark for both cumulative and year-to-date sales last month, posting a record high of $21.73 million in retail revenues in August.

   

September marks historically high sales for the fifth consecutive month with sales growing 5.66% over the prior month to $22.96 million. This brings Missouri’s monthly sales average for 2021 to $14.52 million. While all the numbers point to success, perhaps the most optimistic statistic is the quarterly average, as the third-quarter average jumps significantly, topping $21.91 million. The second-quarter monthly average for retail sales in 2021 was $13.57 million.

The impressive upward trend in Missouri numbers is furthered along by the quickening progress of Missouri licensed medical marijuana facilities, as of 10/1 the state has approved 151 dispensary licenses, 34 cultivation licenses, and 42 manufacturing licenses for operation. Missouri now boasts more than 1 dispensary approved to operate per 1,000 active patients.

With September’s inclusion, the program’s cumulative sales total climbs to $136.05 million, just a few weeks shy of 12 months after the first retail sale of medical marijuana was completed in October of 2020.
