Plume launches new CBG and CBN gummies
Todd Brock is Plume Cannabis’ Kitchen Manager and the creator of our two new flavors: Cherry Berry with CBN and Key Lime Pie with CBG. Todd got his start with Plume by applying to an ad he thought was for a janitorial position at a large rural farm. However, when he arrived for the interview, he discovered he was actually interviewing to be part of a brand-new startup cannabis brand: Plume.
Todd began working for Plume in July 2023 in the janitorial position. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming Kitchen Assistant just two weeks later. Since then, he has been busy building his career at Plume and creating his dream kitchen. Six months after becoming Kitchen Assistant, he had a team of three trained under his leadership, and he was elevated to Kitchen Lead. After reducing waste, implementing curing processes, and spending countless hours researching, he became Kitchen Manager in less than a year.
I asked Todd who and what motivates him in the kitchen, given that his background is not in culinary arts but in sales. Todd replied, “Well, what really inspires me in the kitchen has nothing to do with the kitchen. For the majority of my life—20-plus years—I’ve worked in sales. And the thing is, with sales, you can never have a bad day. The harder you work, the more you input, the more you’ll get out. I brought that philosophy to everything I do. If you make yourself indispensable, you’ll never be disposable. When I first started, I was cleaning trash. This (gestures to his state-of-the-art infusion kitchen) was not here. It was all just trash up to knee-high. But Mike cast a vision, and I believed in it. From that point on, I incorporated everything I had learned in sales.” Having open lines of communication and being effective and efficient are key in this industry.
Todd’s favorite way to consume cannabis is by enjoying flower. He loves a good joint, blunt, or bong bowl when he gets the chance. He has been involved with cannabis since at least 1992, using the “3 and free” philosophy: sell 4 ounces and get a quarter for free. And we’re not talking high-class, high-quality cannabis; we’re talking about the dirt of the dirt, wrapped in packing tape, smelling like diesel or the inside of a tire. We exchanged stories of old and laughed about all the insane things we had found in brick weed. Todd said, “Yeah, if only people knew what was in brick weed back then. There were literally civilizations inside those bricks—things that had formed into life forms and colonies. Man, that stuff was… whew.” Now, thankfully, we have regulations, and we can make educated, informed decisions when consuming. We then pondered what test results would look like for some classic brick weed.
One of Todd’s many jobs in the kitchen is coming up with unique flavors that you don’t often see on the market. This summer, he said, “The weather is heating up, and so are we. What reminds you of summer other than Kool-Aid, limeades, lemonade, and bright juicy fruits?” This inspired him to create our NEW Cherry Berry with CBN flavor. He combined the juicy tartness of cherries with the slightly bitter yet sweet taste of blueberries to create something magical—reminiscent of a warm sunny day drinking Kool-Aid by the pool. The other flavor he created is Key Lime Pie with CBG. CBG benefits include focus, appetite stimulation, creativity, energy, and anxiety reduction, whereas CBN is known for its pain relief and sedative effects. Key Lime Pie was inspired by the quintessential summer pie itself, with tangy pops of lime juice and creamy sweet notes of vanilla and graham crackers. This one is perfect for those who like to be reminded of summers at the lake with their cousins. CBN, or cannabinol, is found when THCA oxidizes, which happens through heat application and sometimes even with aging. Todd struggles with insomnia, so adding a CBN gummy to Plume’s repertoire just made sense! If he could create a dream ultimate edible in our Plume kitchen, it would be a salted caramel blondie with flaky sea salt. When asked if he has any other new flavors planned for the future, he answered, “Well, we’re always looking for suggestions on flavors, and of course, we’re always tossing things around. We’ve got several flavors we are trying out right now. And that’s all I can say without prior authorization. We have been experimenting, though. That’s why we have these lab coats—because we are professional scientists.”
If Todd could pick one person to consume with, it would be his mom. Todd’s favorite Plume gummy flavor is Watermelon Marg because of its pungent, bold flavors! He also enjoys Cherry Pie and Candy Bomb for our pre-roll and vape flavors.
Todd’s team is small but mighty, as he has one assistant named Lance under him. Lance got his start with Plume recently, and we are absolutely THRILLED to have him! Lance brings experience from many fields, including kitchen work and ductwork. His favorite flavor is actually the new Cherry Berry flavor because the CBN helps with his shoulder pain. If Lance could make one ultimate edible in our Plume kitchen, it would be a mega-potent giant Hubba Bubba Pink and Blue Bubblegum-flavored gummy bear. “That would be so cool—just put like a liter or more of distillate and then share it with all your friends.”
Lance first consumed cannabis when he found his dad’s pipe in a jacket he was wearing. He found it and lit it up; since then, his cannabis use has been history. He loves getting extra medicated before bed. When asked what his favorite way to consume is, he answered, “Smoking. Blunt, bong, gas mask, 3-liter gravity bong—you name it. I just like to smoke.” Lance said he isn’t really inspired by anyone in the kitchen; however, he IS inspired by coming to a job he loves every day with people who make it worthwhile. “This is truly a career to me; it’s more than just a job.” And if he could have anyone in his smoke circle, he would choose all the Bobs: Bob Marley, Bob Ross, Betty White, Robin Williams, and Merle Haggard. Lance prefers CBN to CBG because of its pain-relieving properties.
