State publishes annual report on Missouri’s medical marijuana program
This week the Department of Health and Senior Services Section for Medical Marijuana Regulation published its annual program report, detailing expansion and activity for the Program Year (PY) 2021, running from Dec. 6, 2020, through Dec. 5, 2021.
The report shows growth and milestones as well as a breakdown of patient and operator activity in the program’s first 18 months of activity.
SMMR began accepting patient, caregiver, and patient cultivation applications in June of 2019, and began accepting facility applications in August of the same year. Licenses for medical marijuana businesses were awarded in December of 2019 and January of 2020, respectively. The state’s first legal sale of medical marijuana occurred on October 17, 2020.
The PY 2020 report showed the state had issued 56,448 new patient licenses and renewed 12,062 patient licenses.
In PY 2021, SMMR more than doubled those numbers issuing 119,894 new patient licenses and renewing 38,347 patient licenses.
At the end of PY 2020, the state showed 69,387 (Fig.13 PY2020) active patient licenses; comparatively, at the end of PY 2021, the state showed 156,008 active medical marijuana patients.
Highlights:
- In 2021 Missouri’s cultivators packaged 107,043 pounds of marijuana
- Dispensaries sold $188,079,053.38 worth of retail products
- Flower represented 53.57% of all sales by dollar
- Edibles represented 19.99%
- Concentrates account for 11.51%
