Colorado marijuana sales continue downward trend in 2026

First two months trail 2025 pace as daily averages show continued market compression

Colorado legal marijuana sales totaled $202,752,946 through the first two months of 2026, continuing a multi-year decline in the state’s early-year sales pace.

The state reported $105,024,833 in total marijuana sales in January and $97,728,113 in February.

Through February, Colorado averaged roughly $3.436million in legal marijuana sales per day. That is the lowest January-February daily average since the start of the decade.

Daily average provides the cleanest comparison across years.

January averaged almost $3.39 million per day while February averaged roughly $3.49 million per day. .

The year-over-year comparison shows Colorado’s market tracking below 2025, and steadily declining since 2021.

During January and February 2025, the state reported $209,884,287 in total marijuana sales, with a daily average of nearly $3.56 million. Through the same period in 2026, sales were down $7,131,341, or 3.40%.

On a daily average basis, Colorado’s early 2026 sales pace was down $120,870.19 per day compared to the first two months of 2025.

The longer comparison shows a larger decline.

   

The state averaged $4,629,310.22 per day in January and February 2020. The state’s January-February daily average increased to $6,011,041.90 in 2021, before declining each year after that.

The first two months of 2021 remain the strongest January-February period.

Retailers reported $354,641,472 in total marijuana sales during that period. Through February 2026, the state reported $202,752,946, a decrease of $151,888,526 from the same period in 2021.

On a daily sales basis, Colorado’s January-February 2026 average was down 42.83% from the January-February 2021 average.

The comparison to 2024 also shows why daily average is useful. Colorado reported $229,790,635 in total sales during January and February 2024, compared to $202,752,946 during the same period in 2026. The raw total sales decline was 11.77%. But because 2024 had one additional day, the daily average decline was 10.27%.

Retail marijuana represented 90.72% of all Colorado marijuana sales through February. Medical marijuana represented 9.28%.

The first two months of 2026 also continued the longer annual trend seen in Colorado’s full-year sales totals. Colorado reported $2,228,994,553 in total marijuana sales in 2021, followed by $1,768,688,837 in 2022, $1,529,324,554 in 2023, $1,397,131,977 in 2024, and $1,315,678,364 in 2025.

The first two months of 2026 show a market still producing more than $3 million in legal marijuana sales per day, but the daily average continues to trail every previous year since the start of the decade.
