GOAT Extracts named Start-Up of the Year

GOAT Extracts burst onto the scene in Missouri marijuana with a strange name, a blisteringly loud color scheme, and an unapologetic take on marketing.

It’s hard to bring a brand to market that is synonymous with the phrase Greatest Of All Time and not expect the best.

In 2024, Greenway readers seemed to agree, naming GOAT Extracts Start-Up of the Year in the Best of the Industry awards.

Greenway recently spoke to Matt Cummins, CEO of GOAT Extracts, about 2023 and the company behind the brand.

“2023 was a year of explosive growth, challenges and opportunity for our company,” Cummins explained. “We were able to get our products into a lot of dispensaries and connected with a ton of consumers.  We had to adjust our production schedules to meet demand and become more agile with changing rules and regulations as adult use was implemented and began to look forward to the future of our company and the ever changing trends and appetites of our fan base.  We certainly could have done some things different, but overall it was an amazing year capped off by winning this award.”

GOAT Extracts sets itself apart in the cannabis manufacturing space through its commitment to innovation, quality, and customer experience. “GOAT prides itself on being on the cutting edge of the cannabis manufacturing space.  To us, it is not enough to simply put out great products, we strive to lead the pack in packaging, content, potency, flavors, variety and consistency.  We don’t really focus on what other companies are doing in the moment, we like to look ahead and offer a product and experience that our customer hasn’t seen or felt before,” he said.

The company’s unique appeal to patients and industry peers alike stems from its distinctive branding, unparalleled potency across a broad product range, and a relentless drive for innovation. Cummins notes the company’s standout packaging and continuous improvement as key factors in its success.

What endears your company to patients and others in the industry?

“I think it’s the fact that we don’t look or act like all the other companies that are out there.  Our packaging is bright and eye catching, we offer unrivaled potency over a large variety of categories and we are constantly innovating and improving.”

What does the legalization of marijuana for adult use mean for your company?

“An opportunity to showcase our talent to a larger audience and a chance to give back to the communities that shaped us.”

With the launch of adult use, what changes did your company see or make in 2023?

“We took a harder look at what the public is looking for in a brand.  Are we inclusive enough? Do we offer something for everyone?  Are we producing concentrates and extracts that are safe and potent?  Can we handle the demand while maintaining consistency?”

“We were deliberate in our scale-up to meet these goals by hiring some of the best in the industry, streamlining our packaging and processes, and purchasing new equipment.  Luckily we were getting better at the same time we were getting bigger. “

Can you tell me about some of the employees or leadership that help push your success?

“It starts with our leadership that have been in the business for a very long time in established markets.  Their experience helps navigate the path forward but the real credit goes to the people on the ground getting it done every day.  In particular, Sara Cook, our Director of Sales, does a fantastic job of networking in the community, keeping her ear to the ground on what’s hot and shaping our message.  We wouldn’t be who we are without Marie Snyder, who basically does it all at our facility, from making sure our orders are correct and timely, to managing all the paperwork and keeping everyone smiling.  Finally, our production manager, Ronnie Velasquez, keeps the engine moving.  His military experience was crucial in assembling and organizing an amazing team that always exceeds expectations.  We wouldn’t have any products on the shelves without his leadership and drive.”

Can you tell me about the company’s community involvement?

“The GOAT team is very active in the food and toy drives that many of the dispensaries have put on over the last year with the goal of hosting our very own in 2024.  As we continue to expand we will continue to give back.”

Looking ahead, the company has big plans in store for 2024.  “We are very excited about the launch of a whole line of solventless products, more strains and flavors of our fan favorites and to continue our legacy of fun, unconventional branding.  Our goal is to be bigger and better than ever while creating joy for our customers, growing as a business and to compete for “Best Brand” at next year’s awards.”
