5 Tips to help your cannabis job search

Look at the number of attendees to cannabis job fairs and you can see the sheer volume of people interested in working in the cannabis industry.  Former home growers who want to find a role with a licensed cultivator, people with retail experience that want dispensary jobs, and a plethora of other potential jobs in a growing industry.

We have some advice for you to help with your job search:

  1. Craft a resume that gets attention – Be honest about your qualifications and be sure your resume is organized in a way that showcases your experience with the duties and qualifications the job you want and their match.
  2. Cover letters are important – Cover letters help make you a person, not just another online applicant and they indicate you’re investing in your future by carefully explaining why your resume should be one to read.
  3. Set up notification for companies you’re interested in so you know when they post new roles – Job sites allow users to set up alerts based on key words, key industries, and locations for positions.  Use these to send you postings that match your ideal role. Let them deliver open positions to you, and spend less time trolling staffing boards.
  4. Don’t just seek jobs at traditional job sites, there are several specific to cannabis – Multiple job boards are specific to the cannabis industry, a Google search for cannabis job boards will bring you a list of those devoted to jobs in cannabis in particular.
  5. Don’t assume that working in cannabis means you can consume at work – YOU CAN’T – While cannabis companies are typically happy to hire employees who have experience with the products, that doesn’t mean working in a cannabis role is easy and no one is going to allow you to consume during work hours – like traditional roles in other industries, hard work, and ethics are among the requirements for successful applicants
