Missouri brands stand tall on national pre-roll leaderboard

UPDATED

Missouri’s cannabis market continues to assert its strength on the national stage, with several homegrown brands securing a place among the top 100 best-selling pre-roll brands in the country, according to new data released by Custom Cones USA.

The list, which ranks brands by total pre-roll sales revenue, includes multiple operators based in Missouri or with significant operations in the state. Among them, Proper Cannabis, Illicit Gardens, Elevate, and Amaze Cannabis each earned recognition for their contributions to the expanding category.

Proper Cannabis ranked No. 67 nationally, with $7.8 million in pre-roll sales across 692,727 units. The brand offered more than 300 unique pre-roll products in 2024, averaging $11.26 per item with an average unit cost of $6.77 and a 40 percent profit margin. Proper represents one of Missouri’s most recognizable craft cannabis producers.

Illicit Gardens landed at No. 34 on the list, generating $13.4 million in sales and moving more than 1.7 million units. With an average price of $7.55 and a unit cost of $3.99, Illicit reported a profit margin of 47 percent, reinforcing its position as one of Missouri’s most dominant marijuana brands.

Elevate Cannabis earned the No. 41 spot with $11.4 million in pre-roll sales and 1,194,420 units sold in 2024. Offering 74 products with an average item price of $9.55 and a unit cost of $5.42, Elevate operated at a 43 percent profit margin and continues to show strong performance in its home state and beyond.

Amaze Cannabis, another Missouri-born brand, secured the No. 97 position with $5.8 million in sales and 570,588 units sold. With an average price of $10.17 and a unit cost of $5.92, Amaze achieved a 42 percent profit margin, offering strong value in a competitive segment.

While Missouri-based operators continue to thrive, the state is also home to several of the industry’s dominant multistate brands. Good Day Farm ranked No. 26 on the list, with $15.2 million in pre-roll sales and 1,208,916 units sold. The brand reported an average item price of $12.55, a unit cost of $7.06, and a 44 percent profit margin.

CODES, another top-tier Missouri brand, followed at No. 32 with $13.7 million in sales and 1,558,138 units sold. CODES reported an average item price of $8.80, unit cost of $4.31, and an impressive 51 percent profit margin. While both operate in additional markets, the bulk of their operations and product output remains concentrated in Missouri.

Nationally recognized names with a strong presence in Missouri dispensaries also appeared on the list. STIIIZY ranked No. 14 with $21.4 million in sales and a 53 percent margin. Miss Grass ranked No. 59 with a 48 percent margin, and El Blunto came in at No. 63 with a 49 percent margin. Packs (No. 38), Rove (No. 40), Cookies (No. 53), Tumble (No. 78), Sublime Canna (No. 93), Cloud Cover (No. 89), and Curio Wellness (No. 64) all maintain an active footprint in Missouri and reported profit margins ranging from 35 to 51 percent.

The ranking was developed by Custom Cones USA in partnership with cannabis data firm Headset. The report analyzes sales across 12 legal cannabis states, provides a breakdown of product portfolios, and includes a proprietary “Social Score” to evaluate online brand impact.

Additional consumer data published by Custom Cones and Headset shows why pre-rolls continue to be a leading category for operators and brands. According to their 2023 consumer report, 82 percent of cannabis smokers purchase pre-rolls, and more than 94 percent prefer joints as their primary method of consumption. Among those surveyed, Millennials account for the largest share of pre-roll purchases at 44.6 percent, followed by Gen X at 24.3 percent, Gen Z at 18.5 percent, and Boomers at 12.5 percent. Consumers identified convenience as the top reason they choose pre-rolls, but potency ranked highest in terms of what drives purchase decisions, followed closely by price. The number of brands in the top 100 not currently operating in Missouri leaves the door open for further growth and expansion. As more out-of-state brands look to enter the marketplace, Missouri-born operators continue to thrive both locally and beyond the borders of the Show-Me State.
