Barney’s Farm and B-Real launch Dr. Greenthumbs’ Insane OG at Mary Jane Berlin
Barney’s Farm and Dr. Greenthumbs, the cannabis brand from Cypress Hill’s B-Real, have officially launched a long-anticipated genetic collaboration with global ambitions. The partnership debuted June 17 at Mary Jane Berlin, one of Europe’s largest cannabis expos, with a global seed drop for Insane OG set for June 19.
The new cultivar, Insane OG, blends OG Kush, Bubba Kush, and Granddaddy Purple to deliver a 27% THC hybrid. The aromatic cultivar aims to provide what the collaborators describe as “true connoisseur quality.”
“This isn’t just a celebrity drop, it’s a legacy drop,” said Derry Brett, founder of Barney’s Farm. “Before anything leaves our house, it’s been stress-tested, verified, and refined to spec. We don’t release—we unveil. That’s the difference.”
The collaboration between Brett and B-Real has roots stretching back to Amsterdam’s cannabis scene in the early 1990s, when the two first met. Their mutual respect for plant genetics and cannabis culture laid the groundwork for a partnership that prioritizes authenticity, community, and craft.
“This collaboration is for the heads who’ve been with us since day one—before the hype and the headlines,” B-Real said. “We helped build culture. Now we’re preserving it, one seed at a time.”
The global launch of Insane OG marks the first release in a planned lineup of cultivars. The next offering, Cherry Bomb, is expected to drop in September. Described as a syrupy, high-yielding hybrid with a pinene-forward terpene profile, Cherry Bomb is positioned as a focused and mentally uplifting complement to Insane OG’s classic potency.
In addition to seeds, each strain release will be accompanied by curated merchandise, long-term phenohunting support through certified nurseries, and global distribution plans designed to make elite genetics more accessible to both home growers and licensed operators.
Barney’s Farm, founded in Amsterdam in 1986, is one of the cannabis industry’s most awarded seed banks. Its U.S. expansion has included partnerships with brands like Doja Pak and Backpack Boyz. Dr. Greenthumbs, launched by B-Real, operates dispensaries across California and is expanding into Illinois, Arizona, Utah, and Florida, with additional markets expected to follow.
