Missouri Cannabis Trade Association launches “Know Your Cannabis” campaign

Last week, the Missouri Cannabis Trade Association (MoCannTrade) launched the “Know Your Cannabis” campaign to educate consumers about the differences between regulated, lab-tested cannabis products sold in licensed dispensaries and unregulated products found in the illicit market. According to MoCannTrade, the goal is to highlight the risks associated with purchasing unregulated cannabis products, which are often not tested for safety and may contain harmful contaminants.

“When you buy from licensed dispensaries, you know your cannabis products are regulated, taxed, and tested safe for consumption. Buying from anywhere else? You just never know,” the campaign states.

The campaign also underscores the economic benefits of purchasing cannabis from licensed dispensaries, noting that “100% of your dispensary’s cannabis is grown, manufactured, and sold in Missouri,” which supports local communities.

In response to the growing availability of unregulated products like Delta-8 and Delta-10 THC, which are sold in gas stations, convenience stores, and online, MoCannTrade warns that these items are not subject to the same testing standards, and consumers are at risk of ingesting harmful substances.

Missouri officials, including Governor Mike Parson and Attorney General Andrew Bailey, have pushed for regulation and issued executive orders while publicly condemning unregulated products targeted at children in recent months. They cite public health and safety concerns amidst a rising number of complaints and emergency calls involving teens and children.

As part of the campaign, MoCannTrade is encouraging consumers to visit licensed dispensaries, where they can confidently purchase safe and tested products. Licensed dispensaries are required to follow strict safety protocols, and all cannabis products undergo rigorous testing to ensure they are free from harmful contaminants. By purchasing from these establishments, consumers not only protect their health but also support Missouri’s cannabis industry, which contributes tax revenue to fund important state programs, including public education, veterans’ services, and infrastructure improvements.

The Association emphasizes that the campaign is not just about promoting legal cannabis but also about ensuring that consumers are aware of the risks associated with unregulated products. As unregulated cannabis continues to pose significant health risks, particularly for younger individuals, the campaign encourages Missourians to make informed choices about where they purchase their cannabis.
