5 Dispensary Designs We Love
By Kaycee Barry
In just a few years of legal cannabis, medical and recreational dispensaries of all different designs have been popping up from coast to coast. From homey historical buildings, to sleek jewelry store aesthetics – each shop seems to have a personality and style of its own.
We have compiled a list of five very different, but beautiful designs we are loving.
Serra – Downtown Portland
220 SW 1st Ave Portland, OR 97204
A sleek, black outer shell with a super light and airy inside, “Purveyors of Quality Drugs” reads across the door. This design fits the “hipster” Portland aesthetic to the tee – hanging ring lights and mid century modern jewelry cases display the perfectly curated cannabis products. An attendant gives you advice and helps you pick what is best for you. It makes it feel like getting your medicine is a luxury.
Ajoya – Louisville, Colorado
1100 W. Dillon Rd. #3 Louisville, CO 80027
Ajoya is the “Apple Store” of cannabis. It’s both modern and colorful. It’s a super high tech, open concept space with lounge-like seating in the middle. Everything is carefully organized. Ajoya breaks down your experience with cannabis into four different categories – “Settle, Unwind, Focus, and Elevate.” This method helps the consumer find the strain that is perfect for what they are looking for.
Paper and Leaf – Bainbridge Island, Washington
8040 NE Day Rd. W. Bainbridge Island, WA 98110
Paper and Leaf keeps their design simple and rustic, yet modern and industrial. Its interior is filled with wooden features (including a long Oak table), hanging Edison bulbs, and a sleek concrete floor. Lively, colorful art gives this place its character and reputation. Nestled amongst the pines of the gorgeous island of Bainbridge, Washington – this dispensary’s charming wooden interior is very fitting.
The Pottery – Los Angeles
5042 Venice Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90019
The Pottery is the perfect example of your “Californian Dream” dispensary. A minimalist design with fun prints, pastel colors, white potted plants, and vaulted ceilings. Ranked as one of the “Top Dispensaries in Los Angeles” by Thrillist Magazine, this dispensary hosts educational panels, stays up-to-date with current trends, and they even deliver! (A common trend in the the California cannabis scene).
Barbary Coast – San Francisco, California
952 Mission St. San Francisco, CA 94102
Barbary Coast has the romantic glamour of a prohibition-era speakeasy. Exposed brick, red velvet, leather, a grand bar, and a leather-bound cannabis menu that looks like a cocktail list. Attached is a swanky smoking lounge where customers can smoke, vape, and dab, accessories provided. This dispensary feels more like an experience, and stays true to its historic design down to every detail.
