Lake Mountain Farms seeking license to grow and process organic, outdoor cannabis
Lake Mountain Farms, a cultivation and manufacturing license hopeful, is a group of Camden County locals planning to produce “outdoor, sun-grown, organic” cannabis for statewide patients.
Brian McElyea, Brian Lake, and Raphael Wahwassuck lead the business’ team. They purchased land atop a small mountain just outside the Lake of the Ozarks for their license application site.
“It’s an opportunity we’ve been waiting to come along,” McElyea told Greenway Magazine. “It’s always been a dream of mine.”
The team is from Camden County, where they hope to cultivate and process organic, outdoor cannabis.
“We are an outdoor, sun-grown operation,” Lake said. “We operate under organic guidelines. Our product is not just clean, it’s efficient and high quality. We can produce for a fraction of what our competitors can do, which turns into savings for the patients.”
Lake previously worked as a cultivator in Colorado from 2009-2010. Wahwassuck works in scientific analytics for manufacturing and will be contributing further experience.
“Our goal, first and foremost, is to obtain licenses,” McElyea said. “Then, we want to get the product to our patients at the cheapest price point we can.”
Lake Mountain Farms will have a wide variety of products available, from flower to vape pens, RSO, hash and shatter, and edibles. They plan to sell their products to licensed facilities statewide.
On the long road to applications, the team said there have been many challenges – “new and challenging, but a pleasant challenge,” including funding, real estate, and the application process. However, they believe the program is moving smoothly.
“Our hopes is it continues to go as smoothly as it has,” McElyea said. “DHSS has done a great job so far. Guildelines have been clear. Our hopes is the industry continues to grow.”
Just like their cannabis will be grown, the Lake Mountain Farms team believes the future of the industry is sunny.
“Given our qualifying conditions and the wide range of reasons people can use cannabis, the future is very bright,” McElyea said. “Everyone is surprised by the high patient count. We’re also looking forward to the future possibility of recreational.”
