Moon Rocks: another term that meant something different in 2011

When it comes to terminology, different regions and the spread of the terms over time can change their original meaning. If you were to Google “moon rocks” in 2011, it’s likely that your first result would be of the lunar variety.  Today, that same search would yield very different results.  We’ve mentioned repeatedly that the variety of cannabis products and concoctions being developed continue to increase exponentially.  But just because exciting-sounding products exist doesn’t mean they’re right for every patient at this very moment.

Moon rocks are NOT for beginners, we’d daresay they aren’t for intermediates either. Moon rocks are cannabis buds sprayed or coated with cannabis concentrate or hash oil, and then coated with a layer of kief.  If you are unsure about any part of that last sentence – DO NOT attempt to get your hands on these anytime soon. Remember the core definition of “concentrate” and the essence of the plant captured in kief – we’re talking about extremely high levels of THC, estimates can be double the potency of straight cannabis flower when smoked.  According to cannabis lore, these gems were the brainchild of hip hop icons Kurupt and artist Dr. Zodiak – in fact, you can purchase them under the brand name Dr. Zodiak in certain legal markets.

The creativity and ingenuity that are inherent with any type of prohibition have produced many of the products we see today, so cannabis isn’t exempt from this kind of evolution to a “bigger and better” way to consume.  As we continue to get closer to the first retail sales of medical cannabis in Missouri – new-to-cannabis or those patients still establishing a care routine should remember – start low and take it slow. There’s plenty of time to determine what products are right for you and your individual needs and you should always talk to your physician prior to treating any condition with a new medication.
