Should you go to the upcoming job fairs?
As Missouri MMJ Licenses are awarded and business owners get ready to launch, Midwest Canna Expos has created two timely events in STL and KC to connect Employers with Job Seekers ready to work in the Medical Marijuana Industry. The Missouri Cannabis Industry Career Fair provides a forum for CONNECTION at the Career Fair EXPO as well as EDUCATION in the Seminar on Cannabis Industry Employment.
Education sessions cover training and preparation for the myriad career possibilities addressing knowledge and skill requirements as well as resume writing and interviewing tips. This training and connection between employers and prospective employees come at a critical point, post-licensure when businesses will have an immediate need to operate with a professional and qualified workforce.
Dozens of licensed facility employers, employment firms and staffing companies will be on hand seeking the brightest talent in Missouri to fill open positions in cultivation, extraction facilities, and retail dispensaries.
There is also a Facility Owner/Employer Breakfast Education Session where HR/Benefits/On-Boarding thought leaders will provide valuable best practices to ensure recruiting, hiring, retention and benefits efforts are efficient and effective.
Patients Magazine caught up with Karin Chester, CEO of Midwest Canna Expos and visionary behind the upcoming job fairs in St. Louis on February 1 and Kansas City on February 8.
PATIENTS: Why should I come to the MoCannJobFair+Expo?
CHESTER: If you were looking to explore the opportunities that are coming about as part of the new industry, and finding out what it will take to be a participant, this is the perfect place to be. If you want to meet employers who will be hiring for the new industry, they will be here.
What should I bring? Do I need to dress up?
Business cards and copies of your resume or a good place to start. Dress like you’re going on a job interview. You never get a second chance to make a first impression so, make it count.
Do I need to have experience in the industry?
Experience in the cannabis industry is definitely a plus but there will be lots of opportunities available for people who have skill sets and experience that translates. For example, customer service experience in a retail operation is critical for a dispensary operation. A lab tech degree or background gives you a great opportunity with either a manufacturer or a laboratory.
What kinds of jobs will be available in the industry?
There will be opportunities at every level. From entry-level trimmers to high-level CFO opportunities, these businesses will need to find employees who can fill out every imaginable role.
Where can I get a ticket?
Tickets for the job fair are available at www.midwestcannaexpos.com. There are two ticket levels available. For $29, you get entry into the career expo and for $49, you also have access to educational tracks covering basic topics about opportunities in the industry. We also have a resume distribution service option available. This is a $29 add-on that gives you the opportunity to submit a resume that will be distributed to all the employer participants from this career fair, the November MoCannTrade job fair series, as well as all MoCannTrade members.
Is there anything else I should know about attending?
There will be no cash sales at the door. All tickets must be purchased online through the Midwest Canna Expos ticketing system. Lunch is not included with the ticket but we will have on-site concessions and the conference center has a café.
